If you’re a WordPress user you may have noticed WordPress has released it’s newest update, WordPress 3.3.

WordPress has named its current version, “Sonny” after the famous Jazz saxophonist, Sonny Stitt.

A word of caution, if you plan on downloading or upgrading to WordPress 3.3, be sure to back up all your files and databases beforehand.

In fact, you might want to wait a week or two before upgrading as new versions of WordPress can sometimes be a little “buggy”.

Also, you might find compatibility issues with your WordPress plugins and the newer version of WordPress.

I prefer to wait a week or two for the folks over at WordPress to clean up these bugs and to allow plugin creators to fix any compatibility issues.WordPress 3.3 Dashboard

Best to let others find the problems with WordPress 3.3 and wait for WordPress 3.3.1 to be released. As I’ve mentioned, this usually takes a week or two.

If you’re a subscriber of my blog, I’ll notify you when this happens.

With this said, don’t wait too long.

The best way to keep your WordPress Website safe and secure from hackers is to run the most current version of WordPress.

Below you’ll find some of the changes you’ll find inside WordPress 3.3:

1.New media up-loader: You can now drag and drop your media and files into WordPress 3.3.

2.Improved dashboard: The admin bar has been combined into a single tool bar to save space. WordPress now announces new features you might find helpful with upgraded versions of WordPress.

3. WordPress user experience enhancements: Menu screens in your admin area “fly-out” as you hover your mouse. This eliminates unnecessary clicks and allows you to get where you are going faster.

4.Improved usability for small screen devices: WordPress has revamped its interface to work well with small devices like iPads, tablets and touch devices.

Bill, thanks for the heads up. These can be, as Dan Kennedy says, shiny objects that beg for our attention and then get us in trouble. Especillay if we run too fast with these upgrades.

dar I was too quick upgraded mine yesterday, still no bugs sighted yet.

  3. I really love the new version. Just be sure to backup your site!

Lesson learned but fortunately no damage done. When the update came I just happened to be working on one of my sites and when I log in I usually attend to plugin updates and check comments before moving on to add a new post or whatever task I had planned.

That day I updated WP without thinking. Next day I got an email advising an update to a ‘paid’ plugin and when I tried to update got a curly error message I couldn’t comprehend. The developer gave me a long distance rap over the knuckles telling me precisely what you say in your post.

Now I know for future to wait for the second version of the update.

On the subject of backing up there are a number of WP plugins available. Which one do you recommend? Also I like the clean layout of your site. Are you using an available theme or is this your own design?

Best wishes from down under in NZ for a fantastic 2012.

  5. HI Jonathon,

Thanks for stopping by and sharing your thoughts.

And not to worry, we learn the most from our mistakes. Just remember to backup.

I use the wp-backup plugin and update daily.

I am using the studio press theme and I’ve customized it to get this look.

You can do this with most premium wordpress sites.

I hope this helps and hope you have a great New Year as well.
