WordPress 3.0 “Thelonious”- Warning! Read This Before Upgrading

If you’ve been an avid reader of mine for anytime, you’ll know my love affair with WordPress.
In fact, WordPress is my “secret weapon” when it comes to getting websites ranking really high in the search engines for the products or services you’re selling.
Well this week, WordPress announced it’s upgrade to WordPress 3.0 and gave it the nick-name, “Thelonious.”
You can watch a short video describing all the upgrades below:
WordPress is one of the most popular and widely used blogging platforms in the world, and 3.0 is it’s 13th major upgrade.
The latest edition has a new, more refined default theme, Twenty Ten, with more customization options than its predecessors.
The new theme will enable developers to easily customize backgrounds, headers, shortlinks, menus, post types and taxonomies.
WordPress 3.0 also allows the developers to update files and plug-ins at the same time.
The software’s security against scams has also been enhanced, enabling developers to customize options for the ‘admin’ user.
Now before you go out and upgrade your business blog to WordPress 3.0, give it a week or two and here’s why.
With any new software release, there are bound to be some bugs.
Sometimes, the plugins or other 3rd party software you’re running may not be compatible with the new version of WordPress and it could cause you some headaches.
Normally you would want to wait for WordPress to upgrade to 3.1. This upgrade gives the developers a chance to identify the bugs and fix them. It also gives plugin developers time to upgrade their plugins as well.
However, it’s my understanding the WordPress team will not rush to release 3.1 anytime soon. So this means you might have to wait awhile until 3.1 is released.
So my recommendation is to wait a week or two before upgrading your blog to 3.0.
Keep an eye out for any reported headaches or bugs by other WordPress users. Then, when you feel comfortable things are running smoothly, go ahead and upgrade to WordPress 3.0.
In the meantime, you can check back here as I’ll let you in on what’s going one with the new release of WordPress 3.o.
Now go dominate Google, Bill Parlaman
P.S. I’d like to wish all you Dad’s out there a happy Fathers Day!
I’m a very lucky DAD of 3 beautiful little girls and my family is the driving force behind EVERYTHING I do in business.
But sometimes this driving force can become all consuming. It’s a good thing to take a deep breath, relax and unwind.
Enjoy your family this weekend and be “present.” Sometimes it’s the only thing your family asks of you.
Talk to you next week.

Hey Bill, just wanted to also wish you a Happy Father’s Day as well. Have a good one.
Bill, You had mentioned in the past that you give tutorials on setting up Press Word Blogs. I’d like to know how much these tutorials/coaching classes cost and when are they available. My email is attached above. Thanks.
