Website Design: Are You Making These Mistakes With Your Website?
This past weekend I got to help out a friend, Eric Paul who was holding his very own “Super Conference” for magicians.
Eric asked me to be part of his “Panel of Experts” and answer questions about online marketing, search engine optimization and online lead generation strategies.
I really had a great time helping his folks out but I couldn’t help notice how many of them were all making the same mistakes with their websites.
So I decided to give you the list of the top 7 items you MUST have on your website if you want your website to dominate Google, generate leads and convert those leads into sales.
#1-A benefit rich headline combined with curiosity.
The first thing your prospects should see when they arrive on your website is a headline atop your website with the biggest benefit of your product or service. Winning headlines also contain curiosity and solve problems fast!
The popular opinion is you have 7 seconds to capture your prospect attention. I’m not sure of exactly how long you have but one thing is for sure, people will NOT stick around your site long if it’s confusing and they have to hunt around for what they are looking for…got it?
Ask a friend who is NOT familiar with your website or business to type in your website address and ask them to tell you what your website is all about in 7 seconds or less. If they can’t do it you’ll want to reconfigure your website.
#2-Lead generation captures system.
The likelihood of a prospect buying from your website the first time they arrive is very unlikely. Knowing this, why would you allow your prospect to leave your website without making an offer in exchange efor their name an email?
Here’s the deal, a sale can not be made until you establish trust especially online where people are extra skeptical, right? So how do you get around this? Easy, either you or you hire someone to install an optin script on your website.
You’ll want an optin script with a built in auto responder so you can systemitize your emails. A auto responder is basically a place for your prospects to enter their name and email and it’s captured on a data base you own. Then with the auto responder you are able to preload your emails and messages so they go out automatically.
You can see an example of an optin script and auto responder on my webiste.
#3-A call to action.
What do you want your prospect to do when the land on your website? Pick up the phone and call your office? Request a FREE report? Leave their name and email ? People like to be told what to do. Take your prospect by the hand and them exactly what it is you want them to do, OK?
And make an offer for crying out load in exchange for the action you want them to take. If you want them to call your office to make a report, give something of value away in exchange for the phone call.
Which sounds better? Call my office and make an appointment or Call my office today and you’ll receive a FREE back and posture exam ( a $147 value) just for scheduling an appointment with us.
#4-Keyword Rich Title Tag and Meta Description.
These two items are found in the HTML source code of your website. Your title tag is the first thing the Google bot sees on your website and tells the search engines exactly what your website or web page is all about. You’ll want to make sure you have your keywords listed here early in the title but don’t use anymore than 8 words as this is the only amount Google will display in the search results page.
#5-Keyword Rich Relevant Tex.
Video seems to be all the rage these days in the SEO and online marketing world but for me, written content is STILL the holy grail to getting your website ranking high in the search engines. Make sure your content is at least 500 words long and contains your keyword no more than 3 times for every 100 words written.
#6-Phone number, address and email address on every page of your website.
This seems pretty simple right? Well you would be surprised how many websites I review that do not have the business address, phone number or email displayed in a predominate place and on every web page of the website.
#7-Stickablity and Entertainment.
Once you get your prospect to your website you’ll want to give them a reason to “stick around”. This is what I mean by “stickability.” Using compelling video, audio and informational articles on your website really help your website’s performance.
So there you have it, 7 very simple but very over looked aspects of your website that could either make or break your online marketing efforts.
