Small Business SEO Timelines

In addition to being a small business SEO consultant, one of my hobbies is cooking traditional southern style BBQ.
In fact,
one of the first websites I created was geared towards the wonderful world of BBQ.
Now this might seem like a stretch to you, but BBQ taught me an important lesson about SEO…
You Must Keep Track Of What You’re Doing In Order To Gauge Your Results!
Here, let me explain.
Lets take BBQ ribs for example. When I first started cooking ribs I found a pretty good recipe and stuck with it until I perfected it. I kept a little note book and jotted down everything I did during a cook.
Things like where I bought the ribs, the type of BBQ rub and sauce I was using, what time I start my fire and finally I would track the temperature inside the BBQ Pit every hour.
Once I perfected my cooking technique, I’d make one small change to the recipe being sure to keep detailed notes in my notebook. This way if my ribs didn’t turn out so great, I’d have a pretty good idea as to why.
The other thing I learned was to make only ONE change at a time.
There was one particular cook I decided to change three things at once and the ribs didn’t turn out so great. The problem was I couldn’t determine which of the three changes caused the ribs to turn out poorly.
Well the same thing can be said about your SEO campaigns. If you start messing with too many SEO strategies at once, you’ll never know which one is working and which one you can scrap!
So it’s a good idea to keep track of the changes you’re making to your website and how they effect your site.
This could be a simple spread sheet or a dedicated notebook where you keep physical notes. If you’re not keeping a log of what SEO strategies your using along with time-lines, it’s going to be very difficult to execute your SEO plans.
Some things you’ll want to track are:
- Traffic Spikes or Dives
- Gradual Changes in your website traffic
- Website Conversion Rates
So as you’re implementing your small business SEO plan, be sure to keep track of your changes so you can measure the results of your SEO campaigns..
