SEO Tips-3 Things The Search Engines Can NOT See On Your Website

When optimizing your website for SEO, it’s important to make sure all of your content can be seen by the searchWhat-Search-Engines-Cannot-See engines.

You see, what the search engines are looking for is text that’s READABLE by the human eye.

Now last week I shared with you some tips on what the search engines CAN see on your website.

So today, I’d like to share with you what the search engines can NOT see on your website.

1) Images-The search engines can not see or read images except for the text you provide in the “alt attribute” which we discussed last week. The search engines also can not read any text rendered into the image.

2) Flash Files-That’s right, that fancy flash website you spent thousands of dollars on is doing absolutely nothing to help your search engine optimization.  Now to be fair, the search engines are in the early stages of being able to read flash, but it’s not easy for them to do.

3)Audio and Video files- The search engines can not read audio and video files. Again, the search engines are looking for text elements to read.  However, these tools can help your SEO by keeping your visitors on your site for longer periods of time. It’s just that the search engines can not tell if you’re showing a video of a car show or of a dog show.

So there you have it, 3 things the search engine spiders can NOT see when visiting your website.

Now this does not mean you can’t or shouldn’t use these elements on your site, it just means you need to be a little smarter when you do decide to use them.

Make sense?

  2. Hey Nick,

Thanks for stopping by. I really appreciate it. And I’m glad you like my site!

On the topic of video on the site, do the tags and description hold any weight or do they only hold that weight where they reside on youtube or other video sites?

  4. Hi Andrew,

This is a good question. The tags you’ll use for the videos really only help your video on the site where you’ve hosted them. It does nothing for your website after you’ve embedded the video. I hope this makes sense.
