SEO Strategies: How To “SPY” On Your Online Competition & Dominate The Search Engines
Over the last few lessons I’ve gone over some “on- page” SEO basics including writing “SEO meta title tags“, ” SEO meta descriptions” and creating SEO friendly URL’s.
Today I’d like to show you how to leverage this information and “ethically spy” on your competition to dominate the search engines and your marketplace.
Now assuming you’ve already done your keyword research, ( If you haven’t or you don’t know how to do proper keyword research, I’d suggest you opt-in to my FREE SEO video course where I reveal easy step-by-step instructions on keyword research)
Once you’ve completed your keyword research, head over to Google and type your most important keyword or keyword phrase.
Take a look at the top 10 sites listed on Google’s search results page paying close attention to the top 3 listings.
Is your website one of the first 3 listings?
Is your website listed on the first page at all?
If not, take note of the title tags and meta descriptions your competitors are using to rank so high.
Are they using different keywords and title tags than you? Do they know something you don’t?
Are your competitors writing compelling meta description tags? Do they make YOU want to click the listing?
You can tell a lot about your competition just by looking at them through “Google’s eyes”.
For instance, you’ll be able to tell right away if you’re in for a big ole’ SEO fight with savvy marketers or, if you’re dealing with folks who don’t understand the importance of SEO and online marketing principles which is good news for you, right?
Now if your website is listed on page 1 and you’re NOT getting the “click throughs” you want, then perhaps you need to take a look at your title tags and descriptions?
Put on your copywriting hat and change your title tags and descriptions to make them more emotionally compelling to your prospects? ( If you have trouble writing effective and compelling emotional direct response copy you’ll want to check out my mentor’s 7 part marketing and copywriting course by clicking the link.)
Are you committing the cardinal sin of marketing…
Being Boring?
Can you change your title tag or write a better meta description?
Believe it or not, you can often dominate the #1 listed website simply by writing a more compelling title tag and meta description.
Jot down a list of title tag changes you’ll want to try and make them. Be sure to include your main keyword or keyword phrase early in your title.
Change up your meta description with action words that are compelling. Make offers in your title in exchange for the click. For example, “Click Here To Discover The #1 Secret To Writing Compelling Sales Copy Once And For All!”
Once you make the changes maybe have some of your friends, family or business associate take a look at your listing and get their feedback.
You’ll be surprised just how much you can learn about your market or niche just by “ethically spying” on your competition.
In the next few tips I’ll share with you some tools I use to spy on my competitors. These are SEO tools even James Bond would be proud of!
Talk to you then.
