SEO Basics: SEO Through Google’s Eyes

Let’s face it, most business owners make SEO much more difficult then it really needs to be.
It seems like everyone out there is looking for that “SEO secret sauce” no one else knows about, right?
Well here’s the deal, the answers are actually right under your nose my friend, you just don’t know it!
Here, let me explain…
For instance, let’s talk about video, OK?
Unless you live under a rock or you do NOT do any online marketing or SEO for your own site, you’ve undoubtedly been hit over the head time and time again about the power of video and it’s ability to help your site dominate the search engines, right?
Look, I’m not saying video is not a good strategy, I’m just saying it’s not the magic pill that everyone seems to think it is. In fact, you can say this about any SEO strategy for that matter. It’s just not a good idea to rely on one strategy alone when marketing your website.
So you can see what I’m talking about, let’s do some sleuthing, shall we?
Let’s take the search term “blog consulting.”
A quick search of Google reveals ZERO videos showing in the top ten listings for this search term. However, if you look over to You Tube, there are a ton of videos posted on” blog consulting.”
So, if you were trying to rank for the term, blog consulting, would it make sense for you to use video? Possibility, but it doesn’t appear Google wants to show videos for this term.
Now, as you take a closer look at Google’s search results page, you’ll see a ton of blogs showing up in the top 10 listings.
Who’d a thunk it, right?
Let’s look at another search term, “foreclosure.”
Again, when I search the term “foreclosure” I see no videos in the top 10 search results for this keyword.
Now, what I DO see are a bunch of news stories, top blog posts for the term “foreclosure” and 5 images related to this keyword.
So what would I do here if I wanted to rank for the keyword foreclosure?
Well the first thing I would do is set up a blog and start blogging about what’s going on in the foreclosure market.
Next I would start sending press releases out with news and information about foreclosures. ( Remember, Google is showing you News Stories in the search results page, they’re telling you what they want to show, right?)
Finally, I would set up an account on an image sharing website like flickr or photobucket and upload images related to my keyword “foreclosure.” I would make sure to title my photos and tags with the term foreclosure and different combination’s thereof.
All I’m doing here is tailoring my SEO campaigns around the things I’m seeing in Googles results pages, make sense?
I’m giving Google what Google wants! This is SEO through Google’s eyes!
So let’s take a look at one more keyword, OK? This time let’s look at “Tickle Me Elmo.”
Let’s say you own a toy store or a website where you sell toys.
The first thing I see listed in Google’s search results page are “Tickle Me Elmo” videos!
Hey, there you go! Now you’ve found a market and keyword where Google wants to show you videos.
In this case you would want to fire up the old camcorder and start shooting videos, right?
Look, stop making SEO so difficult on yourself, OK?
Google is telling you what they want, it’s up to you to give it to them, got it?
